Warning Signs of Transmission Trouble that We Can Fix at Our Austin Auto Shop

Warning Signs of Transmission Trouble that We Can Fix at Our Austin Auto ShopTransmissions are highly complex mechanisms and issues with them can badly worsen in a hurry. For this reason, you'll want to get to the shop at the first sign of a problem. By being proactive, you'll have the best chance to save yourself from very expensive repairs. At Austin Auto Repair, our local mechanics are highly experienced with diagnosing and fixing transmission problems. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you encounter any of the following signs of a transmission issue.

Common Symptoms of Transmission Trouble

One of the most obvious signs of a faulty transmission is that your vehicle pops out of gear while you're driving. This could be occurring because contaminants in transmission fluid are impeding the fluid's flow. Consequently, there isn't enough pressure to keep the car in gear. In some cases, this can be resolved by getting a transmission fluid flush, but there's also a possibility that more complex work will need to be done.

If your car has a transmission fluid leak, you'll want to take action ASAP to address it. It's a good idea to check your transmission fluid on a monthly basis (which is typically best done with the car still running). If your transmission dipstick shows that the fluid level has gotten concerningly low, then you may have a leak. Another sign of a leak is that there's reddish-colored fluid on the ground where your car has been parked. This fluid is known for having a somewhat sweet smell. Also, fluid that looks or smells burnt should be brought to a mechanic's attention.

If you drive a manual transmission, you'll want to watch out for signs of clutch trouble. Clutch problems often become apparent due to issues related to the clutch pedal. If your clutch pedal has become sticky, noisy, or spongy, then you should get to the shop for an inspection.
